Each year as October sets in, Nottingham seems to amp up the number of brilliant events being thrown around the county, and this year is no exception. You may need to wrap up warm, but there are plenty of things to do and see in Nottingham this weekend, with the variety ranging from burlesque to mushroom foraging (and that truly is some variety!).

Spiegel Tent

The magnificent Spiegel Tent returns to the Market Square this weekend to present ten days of performance, comedy, cabaret, workshops, music, and burlesque! Not many of these unique structures remain in existence, and their sumptuous aesthetic make for truly unforgettable shows. This weekend you can catch Nottingham’s own Gilded Merkin Burlesque and Cabaret, some family fun with Johnny and the Raindrops, or guffaw the night away at Just the Tonic Saturday Night Comedy. Maggie’s Culture Crawl 

Starts at Lakeside Arts Centre Friday September 29th 2017

What better way to raise money for charity than seeing the sights of Nottingham and walking with some great people on an early autumn eve. The annual Maggie’s Centre Culture Crawl sets off from Lakeside Arts Centre on Friday for a cultural walk of around 8 miles. Along with visiting Wollaton Hall, Nottingham Castle and rounding off the night at The National Justice Museum, there are numerous stop offs along the way for food, drinks and resting of the feet so you won’t be worn out. Those wishing to join can either choose to raise money or just accompany the gang, but either way an excellent evening is set.

This weekend Rufford Abbey invites you to take a step back into the past and celebrate the 1940s, an era of turbulence, strength, and unity. Dress up in your gladrags, crack out your best Dad’s Army jokes and immerse yourself in another time with live re-enactors, stalls, and entertainment throughout two days, all imbued with the spirit of the 40s.

If you’ve ever fancied learning more about foraging and how to survive in the natural world, there are plenty of opportunities to learn within the beautiful ancient Sherwood Forest. Autumn is the perfect time for mushroom hunting, but with hundreds of types of this versatile fungus, you are better off with a bit of guidance. Join expert Patrick Harding for a demonstration on how to find and identify the many varieties of fungi, learning about edible and non-edible fungi, ancient medicinal uses, folklore and cooking tips.
