Twas the weekend before Christmas and all through the 'shire people were looking for events to inspire... Oh yes, after weeks of anticipation finally Christmas weekend is here! If you are visiting family, or nipping to Notts for a day, there's still plenty of things to do in Nottingham to get you in a jolly mood!

There are many more events on our What’s On calendar, so make sure to have a gander, or read on to check out some of our favourite things to do this weekend…

Don’t forget, if you are out having a great time in Nottinghamshire, you can use #lovenotts to share the love and connect with us via our TwitterFacebook or Instagram, or use #ChristmasInNotts to share your seasonal images!

Escape the hustle and bustle...

Are you the organised type who has their presents already wrapped under the tree? Avoid those frenzied high streets by and take your serene self to one of the country’s beauty spots to indulge in a festive wander. Clumber Park has Christmas Crafts every weekend between 10am-4pm and a 10K run for those who want to burn off some pre-dinner calories (fancy dress is encouraged!), while in Sherwood Forest you can take a walk with a ranger looking for winter wildlife and discovering more about this legendary forest.

Sing your heart out...

Whatever would the Christmas season be without the music that makes it so special? Whether you enjoy traditional carols or Christmas hits, you can have a good old singsong in Nottingham this weekend. Nottingham Harmonic Choir and the Thoresby Colliery Band lead the audience in a Family Carol Concert at the Royal Concert Hall, while Southbank Bar hosts a Christmas Eve Singalong on Sunday until 7pm. Out in the county, visit Southwell Minster on Christmas eve for a Traditional Service and Carols led by the choir from 6.45pm

Have fun with the family

Of course, for many people Christmas is about spending time with the family, and luckily enough there are plenty of events that will have you all in top spirits. If you’re nimble on the ice, The National Ice Centre is hosting a Christmas Foam Party for all the family, while at The Tropical Butterfly House’s Santa, Elves and Sleigh Bells you can take a magical sleigh ride through the wintery woods, meet amazing animals, and enter the Christmas jumper competition!

Go traditionally festive

If it’s a more traditional weekend you’re looking for then festive events at Nottingham Castle and Newstead Abbey are sure to tick every box, with enchanting displays in historic settings. Of course Winter Wonderland in the Market Square is still as magical as ever and perfect for a post-shop mulled wine. Visit the Helter Skelter Bar, Sur-la-Piste Bar, Ice Skate around the tree or snap up some last minute gifts from the Christmas Market.

Do something totally different!

If you are already a little tired of the festive season and prefer to save it for the big day, there's still plenty to do around Nottinghamshire! Check out the latest exhibitions at The Harley Gallery, Nottingham Contemporary, New Art Exhange and Lakeside Arts Centre, go on a Ghost Tour of National Justice Museum, or enjoy tapas and live music at Baresca!
