Zanele Mulholi: Somnyama Ngonyama, Hail the Dark Lioness
New Art Exchange | Friday 28 April – Sunday 24 June 2018
Following the wonderful Real DMZ exhibition, New Art Exchange have another fantastic show lined up over the next couple of months, as ever expanding, challenging and representing ideas of race and cultural identity.
In this stunning collection of self- portraits, visual activist Zanele Muholi poses critical questions about social justice, human rights and contested representations of the black body. Self-reflective and psychologically charged, these portraits are unapologetic in their artistry, with sharp contrast, defiant gazes, and beautiful and intriguing traditional clothing.
If you enjoy the exhibition and would like to learn more, why not join the curator’s tour on 17th May with Renée Mussai.

Now that spring is most definitely in the air, it has hit that time when we suddenly remember funny things, like the warmth of the sun hitting the skin, not being cooped up in the evening, and the beauty and colours of nature once it finally blooms into life.
