Many of Nottinghamshire's wonderful outdoor attractions are beginning to open their gardens, providing glimpses of long summery days which are soon to arrive. This weekend there's a raft of fantastic indoor and outdoor events throughout the county, from family fun days to steampunk Sundays.

Creative Workshops & Exhibitions
Focus Gallery | Friday 6th & Saturday 7th April
Tucked away on Derby Road, The Focus Gallery presents a rich programme of workshops and exhibitions all year long. This weekend there are two Little Gems workshops which are suitable for kids - Little Gems Creative Keyrings and Little Gems Silver Cabochon Ring - each perfect if you have a budding creative to keep entertained!
For adults who want to explore jewellery making there is an in-depth stone setting workshop, and award-winning artist Jennifer Collier’s exhibition of intricate paperfolding features books, maps, envelopes, wallpaper or scrap paper transformed into amazing 3D artworks.

Steampunk Sunday
The Malt Cross | Sunday 8th April | 1pm - 9pm
Come all ye weird and wonderful to Nottingham’s great Victorian music hall, The Malt Cross, for a day of all things steampunk! Quirky live music, an array of market stalls and circus performers will be in attendance to entertain you all, including mesmerism by Dr. Corvus Marconi and sea shanties by the Trent Navigation Company. You are of course encouraged to dress to the nines in your most fantastical steampunk garb, making this the most peculiar fun to be had in the city this weekend.

Heritage & Nature Walk | BBC Civilisations Festival
Creswell Crags | Sunday 8th April 2018 | 10am
Aside from the usual cave tours, countryside walks and museum activities, there are some great events are taking place at North Nottinghamshire’s most fascinating craggy spot this weekend.
The BBC Civilisations festival continues, with an exhibition depicting the many diverse representations of stone age man collected over the past 200 years. If it’s the flora and fauna of this ancient beauty spot which interests you, check out the heritage and nature walk with the senior ranger on Sunday. Finally, Easter may be over but there are still eggs to be hunted! Bring along a little ‘un and see if they can win a prize as they explore the lake and gorge.

Family Fun Day | Lace Unveiled
Newstead Abbey | Saturday 7 April
The ancestral home of Lord Byron boasts Japanese rock gardens, rolling parkland and a house of historical antiquities to explore, but this weekend there are some extra special events to enjoy. Check out the Family Fun Day, full of activities and trails to suit all ages on Saturday 7th April, then explore Lace Unveiled which presents work by contemporary artists inspired by lace displayed within the rooms of the Abbey alongside objects from the world-class Nottingham City Museums & Galleries Lace Collection.

Escape from New York – Part of the John Carpenter Film Season
National Justice Museum | Sunday 8th April | 7 - 10pm
As part of their new season of film screenings, the National Justice Museum gives something a little more exciting than your usual cinema experience. Last week’s showing of Big Trouble in Little China included an exciting treasure hunt in the depths of the museum, while this time around you can gorge on free MOD pizza as you enjoy this John Carpenter sci-fi classic!
