Family Fun Day at Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club

There is a whole smorgasbord of fun awaiting at Trent Bridge this Sunday as Notts Outlaws play Warwickshire, and better yet – entry is just £1! While the match gets started there will be plenty of fun to keep the little ‘uns entertained – from face-painting and bouncy castles to a family dance workshop and lots more. If you’re a big cricket lover you can test your batting skills in the Outlaw Cricket Skills Zone, get your merch signed by one of the team, or take to the hallowed turf during the between-innings interval to enjoy your own game!

A wonderful week of shows and workshops for children and their grown ups takes place from Monday at the Wheee! International Children’s Theatre and Dance Festival. Check out the dance theatre adaptation of The Princess and the Pea on Monday, or try the Pegs, Puppets and Stories workshop, plus lots more events to browse! We are particularly excited to welcome Architects of Air’s Daedalude luminarium, which gets its world premiere at the festival. These brilliantly playful structures capture the imagination of children and adults alike.

If music is your thing, then Dot to Dot will be right up your street. Always one to get the city buzzing, this is the day to explore some of Nottingham’s legendary venues, get to know the excellent local music scene, and spend a rare Sunday dancing the night away. Headlining the day are festival veterans The Horrors, while rising stars Pale Waves and Dermot Kennedy also appear on the bill.

"There are some women who choose to overlook their natural maternal instincts in favour of academia, but the fact of the matter is that women cannot dispense with the physical limitations of their sex. A woman who expends her energy exercising her brain does so at the expense of her vital organs, leaving them unfit for motherhood".
Just over 100 years ago women shared few of the same rights as men, with education and qualifications being just one disadvantage. As the centenary of the women’s vote is marked this year, we realise what has been achieved in this short passage of time, and what work is still to be done. The moniker Blue Stockings was a derogatory term for intellectual women, and this play tells the story of four such students who fought for the right to graduate and gain lawful qualifications.

Thoresby's Big Bug Out outdoor activities take place at Thoresby this Whitsun holidays.
Head to the living history camp down by the Major Oak and meet the Falchions as they depict life in the 14th Century. Learn how medieval folk coped with injuries in battle and at home, watch the blacksmith at work and view arms and armoury of the knights. Weather permitting the armour-clad knights will do battle in the shadow of the Major Oak.
