There is a real mixed bag of events this weekend in Nottinghamshire, so you can be sure to find yourself entertained whatever you choose to get out and do. A special shout out goes to Nottingham Lakeside Arts, where Oscar Wilde's classic plays The Canterville Ghost and Wilde Creatures are showing. Plus, enjoy a range of activities at Thoresby Park's Family Day, ROFL at the £1 Comedy Night at the Canalhouse on Sunday, or relax with live jazz and tapas at Stray's in Newark Saturday Jazz Sessions.

The amazing maze of maize is back! The past few months have seen the folks at Kelham Hall transforming five acres of grounds into a magnificent, magical labyrinth, and this weekend they throw open their gates for your exploration! Packed with riddles, dead ends and more, this makes for a brilliant day out whatever your age. Top off with a picnic or drinks, snacks or cakes at the Kelham Hall Tea Rooms.

One of the city’s most popular free events, Nottingham will burst with colour on Saturday as the city celebrates its LGBTQ+ community. Join the parade, commencing at 11am from the corner of Lister Gate and Castle Gate before continuing the party in Hockley, where live music, circus acts, speeches and lots more fun will take place until 6pm.
Looking for somewhere to dance the night away? Check out the Alternative Pride Afterparty at Nottingham Contemporary from 8pm – 3am which features avant-garde drag performances, alt-DJS and other performances for your entertainment.

Continuing their run of excellent exhibitions, The Harley Gallery presents a new immersive installation from artist Laura Ellen Bacon. Twining, snaking, knotted and weaved around the gallery floor, you will find Lauren’s vast nest-like sculpture, which has been created from silver birch and natural materials gathered from the Welbeck Estate.
Of course a trip to The Harley Gallery is not complete without popping into the Welbeck Farm Shop next door to pick up some delicious freshly made treats, so make sure you save half an hour to take a browse!

From Saturday 28 July | National Justice Museum | Free Entry
Superheroes: the ultimate defenders of justice, are the latest subject to be explored in an exhibition at the National Justice Museum. Along with lots of superhero memorabilia and comics, the exhibition will explore pertinent questions such as: should superheroes themselves be policed? How are villains portrayed? And how is the representation of superheroes being widened in today’s craze for these crime-fighting hotshots?
Coinciding with this, the museum is holding a Superhero Film Season from August. The first screening of Tim Burton’s Batman includes a tour of the City of Caves and a special themed Bat Quiz!

Friday 27 July 2018 | 10am-2pm | William Booth Birthplace Museum | Free Entry
Many a famous character throughout history has come from humble beginnings, but the story of Salvation Army Founder William Booth’s beginnings is particularly treasured. At the museum's free family fun day this Friday you can step back in time to discover a perfectly recreated Victorian townhouse in Sneinton, try on a Salvation Army Uniform and get stuck into lots of fun activities!
The museum is located next door to the home of another famous Nottingham character at Green’s Windmill! Why not pop along to explore George Green’s Science Centre and get stuck into a breadmaking session with flour fresh from the mill.

Superheroes Exhibition at the National Justice Museum

This summer the National Justice Museum presents SUPERHEROES, a new exhibition which examines the rise of superheroes in popular culture. Themes include the role of superheroes in the fight against crime; how villains are portrayed; the representation of superheroes in children’s literature and TV; and what happens when superheroes act as both judge and jury – should they be policed too? The exhibition also explores how in the ongoing fight for justice, superheroes can provide a positive message of diversity, showing that whatever your background, everyone can be a hero.
