We’re gearing up to spread good cheer and embrace the Christmas spirit this weekend with the return of Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland, a Winter Wonderland of their own arriving at Twinlakes Family Theme Park, and Christmas markets across the county.
Don’t worry if you’re not ready to deck the halls quite yet, there’s plenty of brilliant events coming up without a jingle bell or bit of tinsel in sight. Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland is back in the Old Market Square, and this year it’s bigger and better than ever before! Browse the stalls of the traditional Bavarian style market, featuring over 70 independent traders, each selected with care for the quality and variety on offer, from fashion and homeware to delicious local produce, there’s sure to be something for everyone. There’s plenty to keep kids entertained, with a traditional Carousel, Santa Toy Ride, Helter Skelter and the chance to whizz down King’s Street in the brand-new 30ft toboggan ride, and the whole family can show off their skating skills on the real, 750m² ice rink. After all that, got cosy with a winter warmer and live entertainment in the ski lodge-style bar, Sur La Piste, chill out with a drink in some pretty cool surroundings in the ice bar, or enjoy panoramic views over the Christmas crowds below with a cocktail or two at the all-new, all-glass chalet Bar Altitude. A guaranteed fun, festive day out for all the family!

Find out with the Big Tennis Roadshow, full of fun, free activities for children aged 3-10, including a brand-new inflatable tennis darts game. The friendly coaching team have everything you need to test out your tennis skills with their taster sessions, with smaller equipment and lower bouncing balls to help children prefect their serves and volleys.

Being Human Festival

Exploring the ways in which the humanities can inspire and enrich our everyday lives, Being Human Festival variety intriguing and thought-provoking events taking place this weekend. On Saturday 17, explore the childhood home of Nottingham author D.H. Lawrence, and discover how his early life in Eastwood inspired his writing with a specially-themed guided tour, which will be running at intervals throughout the day. In the evening, over at Nottingham Contemporary, male voice choir The Sunday Boys join specialists in literature and modern languages from the University of Nottingham to celebrate the life and loves of the great American bard Walt Whitman, with a particular focus on his enduring influence on LGBT+ cultures.

Christmas Markets
Get your Christmas shopping started and get into the festive spirit to boot with a trip to one of the many Christmas markets across Nottinghamshire. In addition to the city’s Winter Wonderland, this weekend sees the opening of the ever-popular Christmas market at Chatsworth House, with over 100 stalls offering great gifts and gorgeous decorations, delicious foods to tempt you and outdoor bars serving up mulled wine and German beer, all topped off with live music. Rufford Abbey is especially beautiful at this time of year, with picturesque woodland walks and a pretty lake to wander around, and this weekend there’s festive entertainment and a craft market to explore.

Twinlakes Family Theme Park is transformed into a Winter Wonderland this festive season. Alongside all the usual rides and attractions, including the UK’s largest indoor play centre, visitors can enjoy a magical trip to Santa’s Grotto, feed reindeer, explore the fairy tale forest, take a ride on the Polar Express train and get involved in a host of Christmas craft activities. On this opening weekend there’ll be some very special guests, with Peppa Pig and her brother George in attendance.
