Cosy up in the magnificent old Victorian Musical Hall and be entertained by humorous, nostalgic and magical tales from this festive time of year performed by talented raconteurs, the The Woolly Tellers. With a long history of spoken word performance, experienced storytellers Mick Waysall and Dave Brookes are bound to entertain, and we can guarantee you’ll appreciate the classic and homely nature of an evening listening to their yarns.

See the stunning Newstead Abbey, ancestral home of Lord Byron, transformed into a festive wonderland. Spectacular seasonal decorations and floral displays provide the backdrop to scenes from childhood favourites, as a number of special rooms will sparkle with storybook magic. Will you find Cinderella’s slipper, the Beast’s rose and Grumpy’s chair? This weekend, the historic cloisters will feature a variety of craft and gift stalls, perfect for picking up a unique gift. 

Explore the beautiful gardens where paths that meander past lakes, ponds and waterfalls lead to neatly manicured, formal gardens, or make the day even more memorable with a visit to Santa’s grotto. Don’t forget to pick up a Christmas trail for an extra festive touch.

Never-Never Land comes to Nottingham’s Theatre Royal as they present the ultimate pirate pantomime Peter Pan. Featuring an all-star cast with comedic legend Joe Pasquale as Smee and none other than Only Fools & Horses’ Boycie as Captain Hook. With amazing flying effects, barrels of laughter, magic and fairy dust, join Peter and the lost boys between the 8th of December and the 13th of January, and set sail on this swashbuckling family adventure.

Please note: Peter Pan contains underwater 3D action, so please bear this in mind if you are planning to bring children under the age of 5 or anyone of a nervous or sensitive disposition. Please contact Theatre Royal if you have any concerns at all. A relaxed performance is available Friday 4 January 2.30pm

Christmas at Wollaton Hall: Steampunkalia

Come all ye weird and wonderful to a splendid Steampunk Christmas celebration at Wollaton Hall. The Nottingham Industrial Museum’s Steam Gallery and Victorian machines provide the perfect setting to immerse yourself in the steampunk world, with diesel and steam engines running every day. Outside, the Gin Yard will host a variety of performances throughout both days. Over in Wollaton Hall’s grand, Great Hall, join an array of impressively attired individuals sporting their steampunk style at the spectacular Steampunk Fayre.

Winter Steaming and Christmas Fair at Papplewick Pumping Station

Make a steam themed weekend of it at Papplewick Pumping Station, the finest working Victorian water works in Britain. Described as a ‘feat of Victorian engineering’ this palace of steam features all of its gorgeous original fixtures and fittings, including polished mahogany, brass and stained glass. Admire the brilliant craftsmanship and ornate architecture throughout, see all of the engines in steam, and even take a tour of the underground reservoir! This weekend their regular steaming days take on a Christmassy twist, with over 25 Christmas Craft stalls to browse, festive music curtesy of the Dave Straker Jazz Band and the chance to meet the big man in red himself at Santa's Grotto.
