If you’re not one to usually celebrate Valentine’s Day or are simply looking for something a little different to do with your other half this year, then look no further. We’ve pulled together a few special events and attractions in Nottinghamshire that we think may be right up your street when it comes to romance with a twist.

Sunset Pony Trek
Night Ride with Derbyshire Pony Trekking – Saturday 16 Feb, 5.30pm

Derbyshire Pony Trekking is hosting a night-time trek, especially for Valentine’s Day. What could be more romantic than roaming across the gorgeous Nottinghamshire countryside on horseback, with your partner, or maybe even your best pal, by your side, and the stars twinkling above? It is worth noting that riders must be able to walk and trot independently. Find out more here.

Quad Bikes
Adrenalin Jungle

Keen to do something a little more daring this Valentine’s Day? Want to impress your other half with your sheer bravery and determination? If so, we think a trip out to Adrenalin Jungle, in the heart of Sherwood Forest is a must.

With quad biking, paintball, mud buggies, 4x4 off road driving, an assault course, archery, and more, Adrenalin Jungle has everything you need for a thrilling date. Feeling up to it? Get all the details you need here.

Valentine’s Cocktails and Crime at the National Justice Museum – Friday 15 Feb, 7pm

Offering a night of killer passion, this 1940s murder mystery event at Nottingham’s National Justice Museum is sure to be a date with a difference for you and your partner in crime. Allow us to set the scene… you are invited by local philanthropist Sophia Van Krimpen to an elegant cocktail party in the Shire Hall to raise money for the Nottingham Spitfire Fund. It’s set to be jolly evening as you sip your arrival cocktail – until the dreaded sound of the air raid siren fills the room.

Visit the museum's darkest corners on the hunt for the killer, study clues, and question suspects in the grand Shire Hall, and if the tension just gets too much, grab a drink at the bar. To find out more and book tickets, visit this page.

The School of Artisan Food

Often, an easy option for Valentine’s Day is a meal out (which of course is a totally fab idea, and we can recommend loads of lovely places to grab a romantic bite to eat at across Nottingham), but we’d like to offer up an alternative foodie experience this year.

The School of Artisan Food, situated in a beautiful listed-building on the historic Welbeck Estate in Sherwood Forest, offers an array of exciting food courses, perfect for couples, friends and families alike to enjoy, and learn new, expert skills.

You could treat your partner to a food course voucher or why not book on to a course together? Courses around the time of Valentine’s Day include Seasonal Pasta Making with acclaimed food writer and chef, Valentina Harris on Saturday 16 February, a Whisky and Cheese pairing afternoon on Saturday 9 February and Classic Culinary Skills with Cordon Bleu-trained chef Justine Kanter on Sunday 10 February.

Escape Room Experience

If you’re feeling up to taking on a challenge with your other half, we’ve just the date idea for you; escape rooms, and thankfully, Nottingham has them in abundance. Newest on the scene is Cave Escape. Based within a unique site - a sandstone cave system once used as cellars, Cave Escape aims to bring you some seriously immersive escape games, jam-packed full of riveting twists and turns, conundrums and puzzles!

Escapalogic offers a great range of themed-rooms, such as an abandoned laboratory, with movie-quality special effects and completely realistic sets and sound design. With the trickiest of puzzles and the most fiendish of riddles, iLocked uses state-of-the-art simulation software to create a unique world of imagination, adventure and discovery, making for a truly unforgettable experience. At Logiclock, expect pirates, professors and Mafia-themed rooms, from which you and your plus one will have just one-hour to escape from.

Pure Land Japanese Garden and Meditation Centre

Perhaps as a couple, you need some time to relax and unwind. The award-winning and internationally acclaimed Pure Land Japanese Garden and Meditation Centre is a haven of peace and tranquillity, offering a little slice of Japanese serenity in rural Nottinghamshire. The stunning meditation gardens were lovingly created over 38 years by Buddha Maitreya, and include ornamental monuments, trees and plants native to Japan, and the world’s first crystal garden – lots to explore with your loved one.

The Lost City Adventure Golf

A favourite amongst lots of the Visit Nottinghamshire team for a cute date is The Lost City Adventure Golf, right in the heart of Nottingham city centre. This super-fun state-of-the-art adventure golf complex features two 18-hole courses, so you can either be a true romantic and help your partner or best bud conquer the course or get competitive and go head to head.

Following your round of adventure golf, enjoy an exotic cocktail such as ‘Mango Pichu’, or a mocktail in the Tiki Bar. From Thursday 14 – Saturday 16 February, you and your date can enjoy a game of golf and a limited-edition cocktail in the Tiki Bar for £13.50 (£18.50 for two games).

Choose from two playful cocktail options – Truth; a sweet mixture of Stoli Raspberry Vodka, Chambord and rosé wine, shaken with vanilla syrup, apple and lemon juice and topped off with a raspberry and a cheeky question; or Dare; combining Old J Dark Spiced Rum with Disaronno, cherry syrup and lime, and finished off with Coca Cola, cherries and a mischievous dare. Which will you choose?
