There are so many beautiful places to explore in rural Nottinghamshire, plus the last weekend to see the stunning Snowdrops at Holme Pierrepont Hall, and if you’re in the city, don’t miss your chance to take a spin on the The Wheel of Nottingham before it departs on 24 February.

Relaxed Skating Sessions

Friday 22 February 2019 | 5.30 - 7.30pm | National Ice Centre | Tickets: from £7.50

For anyone who would benefit from a calm and quiet atmosphere when stepping into their skates and taking to the ice, these new sessions at the National Ice Centre are just the ticket. The music and flashing lights will be turned off for the evening to create a more relaxed environment to skate in, ideal for those with a learning disability, an autism spectrum condition, or sensory and communication disorder. The sessions are open to all but designed for those who may find ice skating that little bit more challenging.

End the spring half term on a high with a visit to one of the many family attractions that are running special events this weekend. Follow the Enchanted Fairy Trail around Rufford Abbey Country Park for a magical day out hunting down the miniature houses - find the king and queen of the fairies and tell your secrets to Rainbow Sunbeam wishing fairy. Superheroes and princesses have taken over the Robin Hood’s Wheelgate Park, and anyone who comes in their best superhero or princess related fancy dress will get their hands on a free ticket to the equally awesome Twinlakes Family Theme Park.

Over at Newark Air Museum, in addition to exploring their diverse collection of aircraft, fully-fledged aviation fans and little ones who simply love airplanes will get the chance to sit inside the cockpit. There’s plenty of fun to be had at Conkers outdoor adventure park, with daily craft workshops, ranger activities, live performances and the amazing 4d cinema. Sunday 24th is a great day to take a trip to at Green's Windmill, where there will be Salt Dough Modelling as well as the hands-on experiments in the Science Centre which explore electricity, magnetism and light.

The red roses are wilting, and the chocolates and sugary sweet senitments of Valentine's Day are all but gone, but there’s real romance in store in Nottingham this weekend. This Saturday is the last chance to catch The Royal Shakespeare Company’s vibrant new take on the most famous story of love at first sight. Described as ‘wonderfully fresh’ by the Evening Standard, the production has delighted critics with its bold exuberance and passionate performances.

With spring on the horizon, make the most of the last of the dark evenings on an atmospheric ghost walk. The oldest pub in England, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, is a fitting starting point for an evening of ghoulish and gruesome tales about Nottingham’s past. After being regaled with tales of the haunted Galleon and other spooky goings on in the ancient inn, the tours set off through the streets of Nottingham for more supernatural stories and horrid history, finishing in the haunted caves beneath the Ye Olde Salutation. It’s sure to be a spooktacular evening.

Ease into Sunday morning with an hour of the melodic, musical stylings of Sasha Grynyuk. The talented Ukrainian pianist, described as "an impressive artist with remarkable, unfailing musicality” will be performing several exquisite arrangements from Beethoven (Bagatelles, Op. 33) Mozart (Sonata No. 9 in D major) and Rachmaninov (Preludes, Op. 32  - selection) after which you can enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee along with an enticing slice of cake.
