Mother’s Day Events

From lovely treats and scrumptious meals, to memorable days out and unique experiences, there are some wonderful events happening in Nottinghamshire to celebrate Mother’s Day. All weekend Debbie Bryan is running creative workshops to enjoy together along with cream tea or afternoon tea, choose from brooch making with Nottingham Lace or Vintage Floral Arrangement. On Sunday evening they’ll also be hosting a special Mother’s Day edition of their acclaimed vegan Supper Club with chef Craig Floate. Delightfully delicious Afternoon Tea will also be available at the spectacular Hart's Kitchen, aboard a Trent River Cruise and in the stunning surrounds of the grand Wollaton Hall.

Enjoy a walk around the lake and through the woodland of Rufford Abbey Country Park where little ones can follow their Magical Spring Trail though the formal gardens to seek out fun scenes of spring with a chocolate treat in store as a reward. For an indoor adventure for the family to enjoy there are special ice-skating sessions where mums will receive a free glass of bubbly to enjoy after a turn on the ice. There are special treats in store for mums elsewhere too, with half price entry to Sundown Adventureland family theme park and free entry to Gullivers Kingdom all weekend.

The Spirits of Gin Lane

With the weather finally feeling little more spring-like and dry, sunny days forecast for the weekend, make the most of it with a visit to one of the several free-to-enter outdoor markets and fairs coming up in the county. The city’s Old Market Square will be hosting an International Market from Wednesday 27 - Sunday 31 March, a global shopping experience with an array of arts, crafts unique gifts, plants and clothing from around the world to browse. Pick up delicacies to take home from olives to continental cheeses and artisan breads or sample the flavours of a range of international street food vendors and stop by the Continental Street Bar for a beer or wine to top off the visit.

Add a splash of spring colour and get a head start on the gardening season at the free Spring Plant Hunters Fair, Saturday 30 at Patchings Art Centre. Featuring 20 highly respected specialist nurseries & artisans, peruse the variety of plants and pick up top tips on keeping them at their best. Meanwhile, inside and out of the historic St Mary's Church in the Lace Market there will be a variety of producers and makers alongside street food vendors and stalls brimming with vintage finds and collectables at the Craft and Flea Market.

Spring is such a beautiful time to visit Newstead Abbey, the grand ancestral home of Lord Byron, with jolly daffodils lining the drive and the blossoms blooming in the Japanese Garden. The gorgeous grounds and formal gardens are a joy to explore at any time, but this Sunday you can join a free garden history tour with knowledgeable guide, Philip Jones running at 10.30am 1pm and 2.30pm. If the views and vistas leave you feeling inspired, professional artist and illustrator Hannah Sawtell will be running a practical drawing and painting workshop inspired by Newstead’s architecture and grounds at 1pm in the Garden Room. You will be taught various approaches to create your own sketches of the ruins, estate and landscapes and create a beautiful watercolour painting of the scenery around you to take home. For those with a sweet tooth, they will also be serving up a sumptuous Afternoon Tea which will be available throughout Mother's Day weekend.
