It’s hard to believe it's mid-June with the torrential rain the country’s been experiencing this week, but don’t let it dampen your spirits! The forecast is looking much brighter for the weekend, and after a week spent indoors avoiding the downpours, it’s the perfect time to get out and make the most of it at some of the brilliant events coming up in Nottinghamshire. There’s some amazing free things to do coming up this weekend, like the Wonder day of discovery at University Park and the popular Arnold Carnival bringing three days of live music, arts and crafts activities, fun fair, BMX and skateboarding sessions and more.

World Class Sport 


Accenture World Trathlon Nottingham
Don’t miss the chance to see some of the world’s top triathlon teams dive into the River Trent, pound down the embankment and pedal their way to victory at the ITU Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham. There’s sure to be a great atmosphere to enjoy as you cheer on the elite athletes. There’s plenty of places to view the action along Victoria Embankment, or for the best seats in the house, book a ticket for the grandstand.

There’s even more amazing sporting action to witness this weekend as tennis fans will be flocking to Nottingham Tennis Centre to see some of the top tennis stars from around the world compete ahead of Wimbledon in the Nature Valley Open, including British star Johanna Konta returning to Nottingham turf. Come the weekend we should have some finalists in our midst, so don’t miss out on booking yourself some tickets!

If you’d prefer to participate in something active rather than spectate this weekend, then check out Bubble Rush - a family-friendly fun run with and incredi-bubble difference. Hop, skip, walk, dance or run around the course and through the bubble stations, where foam canons create a fabulously foamy 4ft bubble bath.


Outdoor Theatre & Cinema


Open Air Theatre at Newstead Abbey
Rally some friends, grab a picnic blanket and some tasty treats ready for an unmissable season of open-air theatre and cinema screenings under the stars, which starts this weekend at some of Nottinghamshire’s fantastic heritage sites and grand country houses.

Fans of the bard are in for a treat this weekend, with an atmospheric performance of comedy Much Ado About Nothing at Holme Pierrepont Hall on Friday evening. On Sunday Newstead Abbey present Macbeth - but not as you know it. Five talented performers will take to the stage armed with all manner of musical instruments for an inventive take on Shakespeare’s infamous Scottish play.

If you’re more into big-screen blockbusters, then the beautiful Belvoir Castle is the place to be this weekend, where each evening you can catch a movie in the stunning surrounds of the Cannondale Lawn. On Friday, get ready for a feelgood fix with Mama Mia: Here We Go Again, on Saturday, see the epic, Oscar-winning Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody on the big screen or save yourself for the heart-warming love story, A Star is Born, staring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, which will be screened on Sunday.

Yet another brilliant festival comes to Nottinghamshire this weekend, this time taking place in the historic town of Newark against the backdrop of its striking castle ruins. Three very different days of entertainment are on offer, with some tickets still available for each.

Friday night is party night with a performance from talented singer-songwriter Becky Hill and a full DJ set from chart topping duo Stigma. On Saturday fans of indie-rock are in for a treat with Razorlight performing all their hits during their headline slot and sets from Lightning Seeds and The Feeling. Bring along the kids on Sunday for their ever popular, free Family Fun Day, complete with family activities and entertainment, topped off with a fantastic fireworks spectacular!

If you like craft beer there’s only one place to be this weekend. To cap off a weeklong, city-wide celebration of great brews, a brilliant beer festival is coming to Nottingham’s Creative Quarter. On Friday night there’ll be a whole roster of different DJ’s on deck, and throughout Saturday a variety of bands will take to the stage to provide the perfect soundtrack for sipping beer. There’ll be no shortage of tempting food to chose from curtesy of the legendary Nottingham Street Food Club who’ll be bringing along some of their finest vendors. Be sure to book your tickets fast for the chance to sample beer from a huge range of international and local breweries. Tickets for the Saturday daytime session (12.30 – 5pm) have sold out, but there are tickets for the Friday and Saturday evening sessions still available.
