The Nottingham Beach

We may be landlocked in the East Midlands, but the tropical seaside vibes are about to hit Nottingham city centre. Always a highlight of the summer, the beach is back and this year things are set to be bigger and better than ever before! Get your buckets and spades at the ready for plenty of fun in the sand and bring your bathers to cool off in paddling area. There will be more entertainment than ever before, with free weekly film screenings, variety shows and beach volleyball, along with a variety of thrilling rides to try.

Brand-new for 2019 is the Playa Day Beach Club, a luxury pop-up beach club and restaurant, complete with day beds for soaking up the sun, pool pods to take a dip and summery cocktails galore. Dress to impress at this VIP venue set to host some of the hottest parties of the summer.

Newark Book Festival
A weekend-long literature fuelled festival celebrating and showcasing the world of books at various venues across the richly historic and picturesque market town of Newark.  
 
Waterfront Festival  
Always a highlight of the summer for music lovers in Nottinghamshire, this popular one-day festival is held each year at Canalhouse, bringing 13 hours of fun in the sun watching the stars of Nottingham’s vibrant music scene, all raising money for good causes.

Nottingham’s pretty mill on the hill will be celebrating summer with a delightful get together set across the mill yard and the community garden. Explore the garden for games and children’s activities and peruse the varied selection of stalls in the sunshine. Tuck into tasty pizza, made using flour ground in the windmill, fresh from the oven or indulge in some delicious homemade cake.  

For just £3 you can take tour of the mill for stunning views across the city making for an awesome photo opportunity.


Steaming Days at Papplewick Pumping Station

One of the most spectacular preserved water works in Britain, Papplewick Pumping Station is a stunning feat of Victorian architecture and engineering. On selected weekends throughout the year, they hold special Steaming Days to allow visitors to see the impressive boilers and pumping engines at work. Coming this weekend, they have their annual Steampunk celebration. Expect extravagantly attired individuals strutting their stuff, completions for the most outlandish moustaches and otherwise astonishing facial hair, live music and entertainment. Aside from the Steampunk shenanigans there will be tours of the underground reservoir and displays of miniature submarines on the lake.


Inspiring Art Exhibitions and Excursions


New Art Exchange Open Exhibition - Visit Nottinghamshire

This weekend at New Art Exchange, the largest art centre in the UK dedicated to culturally diverse arts, there are two exciting exhibitions opening, with a launch party for each event. Their first ever Open Exhibition received nearly 700 submissions, from which an expert panel selected a diverse range from over 50 artists to create a snapshot of contemporary fine art practice today. At the free launch party on Friday evening there will be a unique opportunity to experience two live art performances, as well as voting for your favourite work in the People’s Choice Award, which will be presented at the awards ceremony on Saturday.  

Positive Images is a photographic exhibition that displays a snapshot into the lives of Nottingham's Romanian community, which hopes to provide insight into the experiences of the community and challenge mainstream preconceptions about Romanian culture. At the launch event on Saturday afternoon there will be craft activities for all ages and talks led by representatives of the Romanian Embassy.
