Summer is in full swing and there’s fantastic open air theatre productions to enjoy across Nottinghamshire this weekend. On Friday, Oddsocks Productions return to Lakeside Arts for an imaginative, feel-good, and family-friendly retelling of A Midsummer Night's Dream. See Emily Brontë's iconic tale of a timeless love affair between two restless souls, Wuthering Heights at Newstead Abbey on Sunday evening.  

The HandleBards - the world's first cycling theatre company, who perform environmentally sustainable Shakespeare across the globe – will be biking across Nottinghamshire this weekend for two energetic and hilarious performances of The Tempest. On Saturday they’ll be delighting audiences in the stunning gardens of Southwell Minster before packing up their props and pedalling over to Sherwood Forest to perform in their atmospheric amphitheatre on Sunday.

If you’re more into big-screen blockbusters, there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy a movie night with a difference this weekend. The Summer Nights Film Festival at Bolsover Castle will be screening hits all weekend. See the epic, Oscar-winning Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, catch the Tom Cruise classic Top Gun or get ready for a feelgood fix with Mama Mia: Here We Go Again.

Over at Rufford Abbey Country Park you can take in a memorable movie under the stars each evening. Choose from the heart-warming love story, A Star is Born on Friday, family favourite Mary Poppins Returns on Saturday evening or the emotional musical-drama Les Misérables on Sunday.

If you’re looking for a film the whole family can enjoy, Rufford Abbey are hosting another of the their popular free, family screenings on Saturday during the day. The Greatest Showman will be shown from 11am and the only charge is a £5 parking fee if you’re arriving by car. There are lots of other fun things to do around the country park, with a great new playground to explore, boating on the lake and lots of lovely walks to enjoy, making it a great value day out.

This weekend we’ll be painting the town red… yellow, orange and all the colours of the rainbow as the city celebrates its LGBTQ+ community. The annual equality march will commence at 11am from the junction of Lister Gate and Castle Gate, before parading through to the party in Hockley where live music, speeches, art and lots more fun will take place until 6.30pm.

Secret Symphony create experimental and immersive orchestral shows that are anything but ordinary, and their latest offering – a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landings – sounds extraordinary indeed. Set to an incredible light and visual effects show created using NASA footage, the 50-Piece Limelight Orchestra will perform a star-studded soundtrack of stellar hits by the likes of David Bowie, Muse, ELO, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Daft Punk, and many more.
