With summer in full swing it’s the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy a little open-air theatre, and there are a variety of shows to enjoy this weekend. On Friday evening at Victoria Embankment you can see a free performance of a Midsummer Night’s Dream performed by the Nottingham Shakespeare Company, as the River Trent drifts by in the distance. There will be a second chance to catch the production on Saturday at 1pm in the city’s beautiful Arboretum.

On Saturday over at Wayne Manor, aka Wollaton Hall, be transported to exotic lands with tales of treasure at the family-friendly performance of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, packed with cliff-hangers, larger-than-life characters, and laughs galore.

On Sunday, families can enjoy a rather different style of show and see legends come to life with a promenade performance of the original ballad, Robin Hood and the Monk, expertly adapted for younger audiences. You’ll meet Robin Hood, (played by the charismatic, theatrical and multi-award winning tour guide Ezekial Bone) outside Nottingham Contemporary art gallery, and watch as the enthralling story unfolds on some of Nottingham’s most historic streets as you journey to St Mary's Church, the very setting of the ancient tale.
