From historical discovery tours and fantasy storytelling, to a Caribbean carnival, there’s a huge variety of wonderful events across Nottinghamshire this weekend just waiting for you to get involved with. Special mention goes out to the Open Day Tours at Southwell Minster, giving you the chance to explore two of Nottinghamshire’s most historical buildings this Saturday, as well as the death-defying stunt show The Wheel of Death at Robin Hood’s Wheelgate Park from Saturday onwards. If you’re running out of activities to do with little ones this summer, why not join the Mini Oaty Bakes workshop at Green’s Windmill to give budding chefs a chance to develop their skills?

There’s a whopping 15 open air theatre productions and film screenings across Nottinghamshire this weekend, bringing all the magic of the theatre and cinema into the glorious open air and underneath the stars. From family favourites such as The Secret Garden and sing-alongs such as Mamma Mia! Here we go again, to action-packed blockbusters such as Avengers: Endgame, there’s something for everyone. These are hosted against the backdrop of some of Nottinghamshire’s most gorgeous heritage sites including Newstead Abbey, Rufford Abbey, Hardwick Hall, Creswell Crags and more.

Uncover Sherwood Forest with Robin Hood and Maid Marian

Sherwood Forest | Most Fridays in August 2019 | 11.30am - 1pm | £5 per adult

Come and join a guided walk like no other into the heart of Sherwood Forest. Lady Marian and everyone’s favourite outlaw Robin Hood invite you to join them as they tell tales from the medieval days, share secrets of the forest and guide you to Nottinghamshire’s most famous tree, the Major Oak.

Workhouse Live - Pauper's Yarn Family Tour

Every Friday in the summer holidays, join a pauper inmate at The Workhouse as they take you on a behind-the-scenes tour before the main building opens. Find out what life was really like in The Workhouse on this family-focused introductory tour. This event is free but normal admission charges apply.

Summer Storytelling

D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum | Saturdays in August | 10.30am - 11.30am | £4 per child

On Saturday mornings tales will be told of pirate adventures and chests full of gold. There'll be map making, hat making and a chance to find treasure; 10.30am for one hour of pirate filled pleasure. The storytelling session will be led by professional storyteller Nicky Rafferty. Why not make a day of it and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the lovely walled garden afterwards?

Nottingham Carnival

Victoria Embankment | Sunday 18 August 2019 | 12noon - 8pm | Free parade, £3 adult and £1 U12s to enter the music zones

Head to Victoria Embankment to see the city’s liveliest (and loudest) parade wind its way around in a celebration of Nottingham’s Caribbean heritage, featuring hundreds of colourful bespoke costumes and energetically displayed to music from moving sound systems and Samba drums. Visit the four music zones, with a traditional mix of live and DJ played music as well as numerous cultural and information stalls, bar and a fun fair. You can even try some of the region’s best street food, including the famous jerk chicken.
