As we reach the end of a rather long and sometimes dreary month, we’re excited to welcome the arrival of February and all the brilliant events coming to Nottinghamshire over the next couple of weeks, from the Festival of Science & Curiosity 2020 to the all the free delights in store for Light Night!

This weekend sees the start the stunning seasonal displays of snowdrops, heralding the imminent arrival of spring and brighter times on the horizon. We’ve picked out a few of our favourite events coming up this weekend, and there’s plenty more ideas of great things-to-do in our What's On guide.

The grounds of the historic Holme Pierrepont Hall are beautiful in February, bedecked with a stunning display of dainty seasonal snow drops. Tiptoe through the two-acres of woodland and around the East Garden - one of the most dazzling displays of winter flowering gardens in Nottinghamshire. Believed to be the oldest brick-built house in Nottinghamshire, Holme Pierrepont Hall opens to visitors at set times of the year allowing exploration of the house and gardens.

After a short break over the colder months Robin Hood returns to the city this Saturday to lead a merry band on a two-hour jaunt exploring Nottingham’s ancient legends and historical facts, Along with seeing the sights and discovering fascinating historical insights on this multi-award-winning tour, the charasmatic outlaw will let you in on the best places to eat, drink and make merry in his fair city, and after you've finished gallivanting, you're invited to join him for ales in the UK’s oldest pub Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.

If you didn't manage to get your hands on tickets to see Stewart Lee's sell-out shows at Nottingham Playhouse and are looking to enjoy some laughs this weekend there’s plenty of comedy events to tickle your funny bone. Limited tickets remain for Milton Jones in Milton: Impossible on Saturday evening at Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, so snap them up quick if you want to see the Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo star’s unique blend of slightly-surreal wordplay, plentiful puns and offbeat, bewildered delivery style.

Geordie comic Carl Hutchinson will be taking to the stage early on Sunday evening at Canalhouse. This rising star was recognised by the comedy experts at Chortle on their 2019 "Ones to watch" list and is guaranteed to entertain with his amusing anecdotes and canny observations. 

A little later on in the evening over at Nottingham Playhouse, the wonderfully witty and endearing three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Josie Long, pictured, will be sharing stories of the mind-bending intensity of new motherhood in a show about kindness, gentleness, and joy that’s sure to provide an uplifting end to the weekend.
