After a very wet and windy weekend courtesy of storm Dennis it’s been a bright and beautiful start to the working week in Nottinghamshire. Dare we say there’s almost a hint of spring in the air?! We’re excited to get out and about in the county this weekend, with so many beautiful places to explore in rural Nottinghamshire, plus it’s the last weekend to see the stunning Snowdrops at Holme Pierrepont Hall.

Half Term Fun

Various Venues

End half term on a high at one for the brilliant family events and attractions in Nottinghamshire this weekend. Nurture their love of nature with a visit to The Tropical Butterfly House & Falcolnry Centre where they can get up close and personal with lemurs, meerkats, owls, otters, and loads more. During half term they’ll be running a special Bug Hunt with a trail, nature talks, bird identification and loads more fun ways to encourage your little one’s love of wildlife. Blow away the cobwebs and let them burn off some excess energy with a trip to Rufford Abbey Country Park where you can follow their Enchanted Fairy Trail around the glorious grounds before checking out the awesome adventure playground.  

For something educational, immerse them in history with a trip to Bolsover Castle where they can learn what life was like for a 17th Century musketeer before letting their imagination run wild exploring the fairy tale like Stuart mansion. On Friday at Lakeside Arts they can take part in everyday activities from the Roman period including dressing up, Roman hairstyles and board games, then get hands on with history handling archaeological artefacts.

If it’s free events and activities you seek there’s lots happening at the National Justice Museum this weekend, with the chance for kids to make their own unique letterpress wanted post on Friday, fun fairy tale trials on Saturday and fairy-tale storytelling on Sunday. Elsewhere it’s a great time to visit Nottingham’s free-to-enter urban farmyard Stonebridge City Farm to meet their resident cute critters, plus there’ll be a range of low cost activities this February Half Term.

Opening this weekend at Regional Theatre of the Year, Nottingham Playhouse, this laugh-out-loud comedy tells the almost true tale of the making of iconic film Gone With the Wind. Three movie masters have just five days to create a Hollywood masterpiece – and the course of great arts never did run smooth. Tempers will fray, egos will clash and wits will truly reach their end as in this love letter to the silver screen.

In this practical workshop you’ll create you own poetic responses to the unique environment in the north Nottinghamshire countryside.

Plus you have bragging rights for being ahead of the curve once the band – who were described as “one of the finest live acts around now” by BBC Introducing - hit the big time. Oh, and if you’re wondering how to say their name, the gig is part of the their ‘it’s pronounced foxes’ tour.

Head out the stunning Hanwell Wine Estate in rural Nottinghamshire to learn the art of Lino printing on Saturday or spend a relaxing Sunday making your own Roman mosaic.
