Perkins Bar Bistro

About Perkins

Opened in 1982, Perkins is a relaxed countryside bar and bistro in Plumtree, Nottingham. Owned and operated by the Perkins Family ever since – Perkins continues to serve a combination of modern British and classic bistro dishes giving it an identity all of its own. All food is bought in daily using local suppliers wherever possible to allow Perkins to work with the best and freshest ingredients. Underpinned by understated quality, Perkins produce all food in-house - from their own smoked salmon and freshly baked bread to delicious homemade ice-creams. Perkins has a heart and soul all of its own which has been built over the past four decades. This countryside bar and bistro welcomes new faces and regulars alike.

The Menus

Perkins serves outstanding food across the week, and across six amazing menus. Their Main Menu is full of modern bar & bistro favourites (and a drinks list that’s a perfect match), there’s a wonderful value Prix Fixe, a Saturday Morning Breakfast that’s a superb way to kick off the weekend and a hearty Sunday Lunch offering. Perkins’ Afternoon Tea (remember to book ahead) and a Sweet Menu (cheese and dessert wines too) are just the thing for those unable to resist temptation.

To Perkins, great food is about great ingredients – they happily rely on their relationships with local suppliers, forged over many years, to ensure they’re at the front of the queue for the best produce around. Perkins enjoys long-standing partnerships with the likes of Rupert at Harker’s Farm, Jonathan at the Fruit Basket and Richard at Nottingham Seafood’s.

Perkins are one of very few restaurants in the country with its own smokehouse. Built in 2005, to a Canadian design, the smokehouse has got better with age – Perkins’ chefs have great fun experimenting with dishes and constantly discovering new and exciting flavours. The most popular ingredients include salmon, mackerel, haddock, ham, mushrooms and cheese.

A Little More on Perkins’ Past, Present and Future

In 1981 Tony and Wendy Perkins got planning to convert Plumtree Station into Perkins Bar Bistro which after much hard work opened on October 14th 1982. With Tony in the kitchen and Wendy running front of house, the restaurant proved to be a real hit with locals and those from further afield winning awards and gaining entry into national guides. Keeping it in the family, Tony & Wendy’s sons Jon and David took over the bistro in 2002. Jon and David put their stamp on the bistro but also kept close the family values of personalised service and teamwork that Tony & Wendy held so dear.

Most recently Perkins has won ‘Best Service’ in The Nottingham Food & Drink Awards (June 2018). They won ‘Best Boutique Accommodation’ (Nov 2017) with the Nottinghamshire Tourism Awards for their new Shepherd Huts and came runner up in Best Out of Town Restaurant’ in The Nottingham Food & Drink Awards (July 2017).
