About

The Studio, Nottingham Contemporary
Wednesday 7 January 2026 | 4pm - 6pm

Free *Donatations appreciated

Expanding upon the skills developed in Nottingham Contemporary's Painting Stories workshop, this session with artist Woosun Choi explores movement and the expressive potential of form within animation.

Through the process of frame-by-frame drawing, you will study motion, rhythm, and transformation — learning how to bring still images to life through observation and hand-drawn sequences. You will be working on paper rather than digitally to encourage a tactile awareness of drawing, developing both patience and sensitivity to visual rhythm.

Workshop Highlights:

  • - Introduction to the principles of frame-by-frame animation (timing and spacing)
  • Observing and interpreting movement through drawing
  • Creating sequential images on paper
  • Expressing emotion and narrative through minimal movement
  • Developing awareness of rhythm and continuity in visual storytelling

Access:

Free for all. This event is aimed at 15-25 year olds. Booking is required.

This event is held in The Studio which is wheelchair accessible.

If you have any questions around access or have specific access requirements we can accommodate, please get in touch with Nottingham Contemporary by emailing info@nottinghamcontemporary.org or phoning 0115 948 9750.
