In the exploration of how localism has evolved within the new-media sphere, an overview is provided by Matt regarding the inception, creation, and tumultuous journey of The Beestonian. The narrative delves into how they managed to navigate challenges and maintain stability while print media and local journalism faced significant setbacks elsewhere. The future trajectory of The Beestonian is also outlined.
The speaker, local journalist, and author Matt Turpin, founded The Beestonian in 2011 fueled by a lifelong fascination with magazines and human geography. Over the years, it has solidified its presence in Beeston. Despite no longer holding the position of Editor, Matt continues to supervise operations. Presently, he serves as a lecturer in Journalism and Creative Writing, imparting inspiration to others to express themselves in writing and delve into discussions about place.
