It was a hot, hot summer in Nottingham, but the weather has cooled and now we are tilting away from the sun. The mood is changing. Come to Sneinton Market on Saturday, 31 October to embrace the dark, contemplative half of the year and the thinning of the veil.

Celebrate the changing season with MinorOak, Pagan Pride UK, the Nottingham Shakespeare Company, Chronic Insanity, and the witches of Sneinton Market. Everyone is welcome at the Samhain Pagan Market, where there’s no telling who - or what - might appear!

This year’s market falls exactly on Halloween, so it’s going to be something truly special!

MinorOak will be bringing over 100 craft, food, and drink traders to Sneinton Market Square, Sneinton Market Avenues, and MinorOak Coworking (at Gedling Street and Avenue A). Expect artists, makers, card readers, upcyclers, and purveyors of vintage and direct-trade goods, with an emphasis on the unique, unusual, and occult. 

Pagan Pride UK will lead opening and closing ceremonies, including a performance ritual and fire show by Drakonica at the end! They have also put together a full schedule of live music, dance, and storytelling. This year’s performers include Ashley Mortimer, Black Pig Border Morris Dancers, Reaper’s Ghost, Collexive Dance, Mythagic, Shell the Alt Folkie, Luxury Stranger, and more! From Pagan Pride: “This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the repealing of the Witchcraft Act. To commemorate this, we will be highlighting some of the voices from our history that built the foundations of what our community has become, and those who still advocate for it today.”

The Nottingham Shakespeare Company will be performing a dark version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Midsummer’s Nightmare? Midwinter’s Night Dream?).

And finally, Chronic Insanity will have an immersive theatre event happening WITHIN the market. Buy tickets for the full experience or join in when and where something even stranger than usual appears!

And, of course, costumes and Goth or Pagan garb are very much encouraged!

-GETTING THERE-

Attendees are encouraged to use public transport. The market is a 5-minute walk from the Lace Market tram stop and a 10-minute walk from the Victoria Centre and Old Market Square bus stops. Most red and violet buses stop next to Sneinton Market. Visitors travelling from out of town are encouraged to use the train and tram or one of Nottingham’s Park & Rides. Nearby street parking is available, but spaces are likely to be difficult to find.

 

Blue Badge holders are advised to park on Gedling Street or Bath Street if possible. The market is wheelchair accessible, and dogs are welcome.
