Resolution 88 return to Peggy's Skylight with their unique Funk/Jazz flavours. "Wow. Soulful music, played with passion and incredible skill. Think Headhunters for the new millennium." - Bob Power (The Roots, Erykah Badu, D'Angelo), NY
"Monumental – band on the rise" – Larry Mizell
Resolution 88 return to Peggy's Skylight to perform music from their entire discography with the possibility of some new material too.
They fuses the sound of the modern London jazz scene with the inspirational greats of the 70's such as Herbie Hancock's Head Hunters and the classic Mizell Brothers productions. They have brought their high-energy performances to prestigious venues and festivals around the UK and Europe.
'Vortex' is the 4th studio album released by Resolution 88 and with live shows supporting Snarky Puppy, Roy Ayers, Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Larry Mizell & the Blackbyrds, Butcher Brown, the Yellowjackets and many more, Resolution 88 have established themselves as one of the UK's leading exponents of funk jazz. Their music is synonymous with the beautiful sound of the Fender Rhodes.
For their new album 'Vortex', bandleader and composer Tom O'Grady went all-out to recreate the sound world from his favourite Mizell Brothers productions and Herbie Hancock records – everything you hear on this album, from the Mellotron to the Echoplex, from to the Oberheim 4 Voice to the glockenspiel – is the real thing. The artwork was beautifully painted by Tokio Aoyama, inspired by the title track 'Vortex' and as a homage to the works of other Japanese artists such as 'Nobuhiro Nakanishi' who painted the cover of Herbie Hancock's live album 'Flood'.
"Resolution 88 have gone with the … influence of mid-70's Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters and do it in the most heavyweight, sincere and unique way." – Snowboy (Blues & Soul Magazine)
