More than 100 new jobs will be created in Nottingham after a global HR software firm announced it is moving into the city centre. York-based Mitrefinch, which developed the world’s first electronic employee time and attendance system in 1979, chose Nottingham after identifying it as a tech hotspot.

It has rented 6,100 sq ft of “grade A” office space at the Nottingham One complex, in Canal Street, in one of the largest inward investment deals in years.

The business has expanded internationally, with 160+ UK staff and a further 90+ staff operating globally outside of the UK in offices in Canada, USA and Australia, and every day its technology is trusted by more than 3,500 businesses across the world, including household names such as British Airways, Wilkinson, UPS, Walkers and Nestle.

Mathew Jenkins, chief executive at Mitrefinch, said: "The new Mitrefinch office at Nottingham One represents an incredible milestone in our company’s history.

“We are investing in the growth and development of our existing team as well as capitalising heavily in recruiting new people.

“Mitrefinch has ambitious growth plans, and we have only scratched the surface of what we can achieve in the UK and internationally. We’re proud to not only be opening a new Nottingham office but also redesigning our York head office to accommodate our rapid expansion plans."

In the last 12 months alone, its total number of employees has increased by 55%, both in the UK and internationally.

Matthew added: "As a technology hotspot, with a great talent pool and excellent connections with both London and York, Nottingham was an obvious choice for our new UK office. We’re excited about the outstanding opportunities the city offers and see the region as a core part of our growth strategy."

Jonathan Seddon of NG, which brokered the deal said: "This is great deal for Nottingham, and a vindication of a landlord who is willing to invest in their property. It also continues our impressive run of office lettings in the city centre of late.

"To be able to seal a deal to bring such a fast-growing company to Nottingham is particularly satisfying, but we won't rest on our laurels. We have also been instructed to market Unit E, an 8,750 sq ft office suite, which gives tenants an opportunity to have a unit created to a bespoke specification. I'd urge any interested parties to get in touch immediately."

Andrew Davidson of landlord Nottingham One Ltd, said: "This is one of the largest inward investment deals into Nottingham in recent years, and we wish Mitrefinch all the best as they continue to grow.

"Working with Jonathan and his NG team has been a great experience; they've been proactive, knowledgeable and innovative in marketing Suite D, and we look forward to securing further deals with NG at Nottingham One in the near future."

Lorraine Baggs, head of investment for Marketing NG’s Invest in Nottingham team, said: “Nottingham’s tech sector is growing all the time and is one of our great strengths, which this expansion into the city by Mitrefinch is clear recognition of. As the city’s multi-million ‘Southern Gateway’ regeneration continues Nottingham One is a prime example of a number of attractive business locations in the area which will only increase in popularity in coming years.”
