Chapel Art Gallery

The Chapel Gallery, which is located in the former Methodist Chapel at the Framework Knitters Museum in Ruddington, is a new partnership project between the museum and the Nottingham Society of Artists (NSA). Entry to the gallery is free.

The Chapel Gallery is the only public art gallery south of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, and operates as an annexe to the main NSA gallery at St Luke’s House on Friar Lane in the city centre. It exhibits a variety of artworks from Nottinghamshire Artists, showcasing different styles, media and subject matter. New exhibitions start every 6 to 8 weeks and visitors have the chance to meet some of the artists and even watch them at work.

All the artworks exhibited at the Chapel Gallery are for sale, with 15% of all sales being put towards the Framework Knitters Museum’s plans to redevelop and expand their existing site to build a bigger, better museum for future generations to enjoy. The museum shop and café are open to all Chapel Gallery visitors to purchase refreshments and souvenirs.

Opening times
The Chapel Gallery is open Friday to Sunday during the museum’s usual trading hours.

From April 2017, the museum will be open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4:30pm and Sunday from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.

Visitors to the museum on Wednesdays and Thursdays can view the gallery as part of their museum tour.

Selected Artist Bios:

Colin Treliving
Colin studied display and exhibition presentation at the College of Art and Industrial Design in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Work, and his passion for the theatre, kept him from developing his style until about 20 years ago.

He specialises in painting with pastels, relishing the way pastels allow him to demonstrate the effect of light on objects and people. Colin also produces sketches in watercolours and pencil, and is currently working with oils and acrylics.

He has had his work exhibited in the NSA’s city centre gallery on Friar Lane, Patchings Art Centre, Thoresby Gallery, The Longdale Craft Centre, and the KNK Gallery at Aspley.

Maureen Copley
Maureen has lived and worked in Nottingham her whole life. She displayed a talent for drawing and painting from a very young age, but didn’t fully explore her skills until after she had raised her children.

She explores a variety of styles, using different kinds of media in different ways. Maureen’s work has been exhibited at Nottingham Castle the Djanogly Gallery, Patchings Art Centre, and Thoresby Gallery, as well as the NSA’s city centre gallery.
Roger Crooks
Roger studied painting and graphics at Mansfield College of Art in the 1960s, gaining a National Diploma in Art. His career focused on graphic design until he rekindled his love of painting around 10 years ago.

He specialises in still life studies, landscapes, portraits, and life drawings/paintings. Roger says his fascination with painting stems from the fact that you can’t always predict the outcome, but the process is always exciting and often surprising.

His work has been exhibited at the Mall Gallery in London, Birmingham Art Society, Thoresby Gallery, Patchings Art Centre, local libraries and the NSA’s city centre gallery.
