The Queen's Royal Lancers and Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum

About

FREE attraction, but donations are welcome.

The Queen’s Royal Lancers, The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry and The South Nottinghamshire Hussars are to concentrate their museum collections into a new home at Thoresby Courtyard, Thoresby Park. At Thoresby, in partnership with The Stonebridge Trust, the new museum can expand its services and secure its future within a wider cultural and leisure venue.

The exhibition will tell the human, social and military history of the Regiments. It will showcase key episodes in the Regimental histories, supported by collections, and relate the Regiments’ histories to the ongoing story of The British Army and British history. Individual stories, local and family histories will narrate the story in an imaginative way. The Queen’s Royal Lancers, The Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry and The South Nottinghamshire Hussars wish to concentrate their museum collections into a new home at Thoresby.

These collections of arms, uniforms, medals, silver and paintings illustrate the regiments' part in the great battles of the last three centuries. They include artefacts from the American War of Independence, the Battle of Waterloo, the Charge at Aliwal, the Charge of the Light Brigade, the Zulu War, the Indian Mutiny, the Charge at Omdurman, the Boer War, the Great War, the Second World War and the Gulf War.

You are invited into this treasury of artefacts that bring history to life, to discover the intriguing history of these regiments and examine these most fascinating items. Move through a series of 'rooms' and see an original 'red-coat' as worn during the American War of Independence, a tin of chocolate from the Boer War, and the bugle blown to sound the Charge of the Light Brigade.
