1940s Weekend at Newark Air Museum

Newark Air Museum
Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 October 2020 | 10am - 4pm
Adults £9 | Over 65s £8 | Children £4.50 | Family ticket [2 adults & 3 children] £24

This weekend event will be a follow-up event from the various 1940s Weekend events hosted by the museum in recent years. The Autumn 1940s Weekend is being organised to commemorate various aspects of the 1940s at what is part of the former RAF Winthorpe airfield site that was a World War II Bomber Command training base. There will also be specific references to the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II.

Permeant displays at the museum include the Dig For Victory Garden around the Anderson Shelter and the World War II ROC (Royal Observer Corps) that will be completed last year. All around the museum's extensive site, there will be a distinctive 1940s feel, with visiting displays / groups set out both under cover and outside. These displays typically include: vintage vehicles (cars and military vehicles; local history groups; variety of themed wartime trade stalls; and will feature regular performances during the weekend by singers performing 1940s era songs and broadcasts of 1940s records and songs.

Visitors are encouraged to enter into the '1940s spirit' by attending in period costume. Such participants will be admitted at a discounted admission rate over the weekend. Once again we would like to encourage the re-enactors and promenarders to wear their winter clothing.

Throughout the two days there will be a host of 1940s related activities and entertainment taking place around the museum site, including alongside our famous Anderson Shelter/Dig for Victory Garden; the World War II era ROC Post; and in a marquee that will be erected alongside Hangar 2.

Everyone at the museum is looking forward to two days of nostalgia and commemorations.
