Lakeside Arts introduces a new series of participatory events introducing children and their families to some elements of the Chinese culture and language this September - October.
ABOUT CHINA: TELLING STORIES THROUGH MUSIC AND SOUND
Saturday 25 September
Musician and Storyteller Ling Peng will introduce participants to different Chinese musical instruments including percussion, encouraging everyone to experiment with them and use them creatively to tell a story through music and sound.
ABOUT CHINA: TRADITIONAL DRAGON AND LION DANCE
Saturday 02 October
If your children have ever enjoyed a dragon or lion dance at Chinese New Year, then this is the workshop where they can learn to do it themselves! Ling Peng will lead the participants in the dances with child-size dragon and lion, and by the end of the session they’ll be delivering the dances with accompanying percussion music.
ABOUT CHINA: CHINESE DRAGON-PUPPET AND LANTERN MAKING
Saturday 09 October
Ling Peng will demonstrate and help the participants to make their own 3D dragon puppet, and also a colourful Chinese lantern in this arts and crafts session. All materials are supplied and children will be able to take their colourful creations home.
ABOUT CHINA: SING ALONG - CHINESE FOLK SONG
Saturday 16 October
A unique opportunity to learn a popular Chinese folk song – in Mandarin – led and accompanied by Ling Peng on the erhu (a traditional Chinese stringed instrument). At the end of the session the participants will perform it for their families.
