Architecture, Drawing and the City - Short Course at NTU, Nottingham Trent University

About

Nottingham Trent University
12 - 16 July 2021, Monday to Friday 10 am - 4 pm, one week
£495

This course will explore the concept of place through drawing.

It will introduce you to the notion of drawing and design as tools for recording, reflecting and communicating ideas around architecture and the built environment.

The course is therefore ideal for anyone currently studying architecture, or thinking about studying it in the future, or anyone who's simply interested in drawing and the urban landscape who wants to learn more.

This will be a practical course based on location and in the design studio.

On this course you will undertake projects that:

- use different materials 'in-situ' to record architecture
- involve site observations to help you engage with a location
- research how people interact with the environment
- improve your skills in hand drawing
- use the computer to generate images that identify spatial activity, infrastructure and the built form.

The course will include architectural history and theory as well as group project work and presentations to demonstrate your artistic understanding of drawing, pattern and architecture.

Level: Beginner

Entry requirement: Some experience related to architecture or drawing is useful, but not essential.

Tutor Profile: Carlos Marquez began his architecture career in Chile.

He then went on to develop a collection of visual notations during trips around Europe, India, Greece and Latin-American as well as during his design and teaching activities.

Carlos has presented his work at conferences about drawing in architecture, and exhibited part of his collection of sketchbooks in The Usher Gallery.

He has taught and promoted the use of visual notation and observation as a fundamental component when learning about architecture.

He has run drawing workshops around the world.

Carlos currently teaches on the Interior Architecture and Design course at NTU.
