About

Ballet Black Triple Bill - Nottingham Playhouse, Friday 26 June 2015 at 8pm

The Ruler looks over the world he has created. In his court he creates creatures in his own image. In the dark forest below he creates savages. One night, with the aid of his Angel assistant, the Ruler visits the savages, and, leading a maiden into a trance, has her bear him a son.

The son grows in the forest. The son is gifted and worshipped by the savages until they have fed off him so much they destroy him. As the son’s soul leaves the forest he takes with him the memory of a serpent woman he loves. The son is welcomed into the kingdom of his father but he rejects this – believing the earthly love he felt to be more true. The son and his lover are condemned to descend into an underworld where they make their own kingdom, from which one day they will emerge to stake their own claim on all things.

This triple bill also features To Fetch a Pail of Water? by emerging choreographer, Kit Holder (Birmingham Royal Ballet) and Ballet Black’s 2009 ballet, Depouillement, created by Will Tuckett.
