Friday 19 & Saturday 20 September 2014 from 9am - 5pm
The BBC World War One At Home Roadshow will visit Nottingham as the last stop on it's UK tour alongside the city centre wide Fields Of Battle - Land of Peace street exhibition. Actor Larry Lamb is one of the well-known BBC faces who will take part in a number of the events, which will reflect on the dramatic impact the war had on families and communities, as well as helping people explore their own relatives links to the war.
The family-friendly events will include hands-on activities, performances and interactive sessions designed to appeal to everyone from eight to eighty.
People attending can visit The Briefing Room for interviews and presentations hosted by BBC stars including Larry Lamb and Kate Adie. They can volunteer to be put through their paces by trainers in an outdoor Parade Ground, and be invited to make their own World War One At Home ID Permit to take away in The Records Office, as well as learning about how medicine and communications were transformed during the war, including demonstrations of how carrier pigeons were an invaluable source for sending messages. Visitors can also have a go at being a war reporter, meet experts from The Imperial War Museum and search their families connections to the war in The History Hub. They can also visit The War Room for interviews with BBC personalities and local experts and explore hands on activities at The Pals Tent. There will also be an opportunity to meet the BBC Radio Nottingham team as the station will broadcast live from the site.
This event is part of Trent To Trenches, a county-wide programme of events to mark 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War.
