About

Tuesday 21st May 2019 I 7pm
Arnold Methodist Church
£1.00 for members and £3.00 for non-members

Thomas Chambers Hines was born in Covent Garden into a prosperous middle-class family, the eldest son of Josiah Hine a hosiery manufacturer. He was articled to the London architect Matthew Habershon and in 1837 Hine arrived in Nottingham and formed a partnership with the builder William Patterson, later working with Robert Evans JP until early in 1867 and thereafter with his son George Thomas Hine until his retirement around 1890.

Hine was responsible for an absolutely fascinating array of Nottinghamshire’s building and monuments: The rebuilding of St Laurence's Church Gonalston, Coppice Hospital Ransom Road Mapperley, Nottingham High School, ‘Penrhyn House’ Tunnel Road The Park Nottingham, Monument to Lord George Bentinck Market Place Mansfield, The Rectory Kinoulton, The Park Estate from 1854 onwards amongst many others.  Kurt Hatton will give a fascinating insight into the life and many works of Thomas Chambers Hines on the evening.
