Bolsover Castle

Witness expert horsemen in flamboyant 17th century costume training for art and battle to baroque music in the spectacular surroundings of the Riding School at Bolsover Castle. Behold breath-taking displays of horses in training, as they refine the methods created by one of the great equestrian masters and former Bolsover inhabitant, William Cavendish.

There are three different types of shows (see separate dates below) on during every Saturday and Sunday (except May 25-26th, 8-9th June, 13-24th July and 24-25th August). The show run at 11.30am, 1.30pm & 3.30pm.

Please note that photography and filming is prohibited during the displays.

The art of Manege

Expert in historic horsemanship Dominic Sewell and his Historic Equitation team will reveal more about the famous training techniques of Cavendish and their majestic horses will demonstrate traditional moves and skills of the time.

Power and Grace

With their elegant Spanish horses, the Atkinson Action Horses will amaze you with a demonstration of skilled horsemanship displaying the complicated movements of Cavendish's time which are also as relevant today. Atkinson Action Horses are one of the leading trainers of horses for film and TV, having featured on Poldark, Peaky Blinders and many more. Benjamin Atkinson is trainer to the Royal Equestrian Club of Dubai. Please note that photography and filming is prohibited during the displays.

From Manege to Dressage

Be amazed as Peter Maddison Greenwell and the Spanish horses of El Caballo de Espana demonstrate classical horsemanship and the heritage behind the long-held tradition of displaying horses. Peter will explain in this fascinating demonstration why these classical methods are still relevant today. International trainer, Peter, believes correct classical training promotes welfare and longevity in horses.
