Celtic reflections - British Museum talk at National Civil War Centre

About

Thursday 17 December
National Civil War Centre

The National Civil War Centre is reaching back more than 2,000 years to host a fascinating free talk on Thursday 17 December.

Dr Julia Farley, Curator of European Iron Age collections at the British Museum, will be in Newark to reflect on the two stunning Iron Age mirrors on display until the New Year.

The loan of the mirrors is part of a spotlight tour by the British Museum and National Museums Scotland, supported by the Dorset Foundation, and linked to a major exhibition on the Celts now underway in London and which is scheduled to open in Edinburgh next March. Dr Farley will talk about these major shows embracing more than 300 artefacts and trace the story of the Celts from 500BC to the present day. She explained:

“Celtic artistic design from across Europe may seem similar, but in fact there are many differences. The designs on the mirrors for example are distinctively British. We'll be considering this rich heritage and looking at the way Celtic identity has been re-defined over the last 300 years.”

The talk starts at 4pm and is included in the normal price of admission: £7 adults, £6 concessions and £3 children. A season ticket is just £11. English Heritage members half price.
