Chatsworth House Outdoors
Entry to house, garden, playground and farm | Adult £23 | Child £14.50

Artist and musician Linder Sterling will create a new, major installation as part of a new sculpture exhibition in the garden at Chatsworth this autumn, to be unveiled alongside works by artists such as Antony Gormley, Dame Elisabeth Frink and Barry Flanagan.

Called ‘Chatsworth Outdoors’, the exhibition opens 14 September and will shine a spotlight on art and nature through the creation of ‘viewpoints’; points of interest chosen by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and intended to draw visitors into new corners of the world-famous, 105-acre garden by offering great art from a new perspective.

The exhibition will feature works more than 20 artists, including sculptures rarely seen in public, drawn from across Devonshire estates including Chatsworth, Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire and Lismore Castle in Ireland. The existing sculpture collection will be centre stage and positioned in response to the landscape; the garden being a sculpture itself having been shaped, built, planted and hewn from the Derbyshire countryside by legendary figures such as Joseph Paxton and Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.

Linder Sterling has been artist-in-residence at Chatsworth during 2017/18 and is a Paul Hamlyn Foundation award winning artist. During her residency, Linder immersed herself in the life of the estate. 'Her Grace Land' features her response through four installations in the house and explores the female voice at Chatsworth in the centenary year of the Act of Representation. Her garden installation for Chatsworth Outdoors will be a temporary feature.
