City of Caves | Broadmarsh Shopping Centre
Sunday 13 May 2018 | 10am
£9.95 per person
Showcasing some of the oldest caves in Nottingham, City of Caves is the city's premier cave museum. Dating back to the middle ages, regular tours feature the medieval tannery and remenants of the Drury Hill slums, but behind the scenes there is more to discover!
Led by geologist Tony Waltham, author of a book on Nottingham’s caves, this is a rare opportunity to visit the West Passage, which is usually out of bounds to visitors.
After looking briefly at the caves seen on normal tours, the tour will move into these caves which include old stables and cellars used for various purposes. The visit will last for about an hour, has some rough going underfoot and includes some caves with no lighting, so sensible shoes are required and everyone must have their own torch (about as strong as a bicycle front light, so not just a mobile phone).
In celebration of Nottingham’s 800 caves, #CaveCity invites you to explore this mysterious terrain which has lain beneath the city for hundreds of years. With tours, talks, activities and experiences throughout the city, including some of the city's lesser known cave locations, please visit the Cave City: Nottingham Underground Festival page for a full list of events, or check out the festival itinerary to plan your weekend.
