Nottingham Trent University
12 - 16 July 2021, Monday to Friday 10 am - 4 pm, one week
£475
This course is an opportunity to engage with the latest concept art techniques practiced throughout the game design industry, many of which are also techniques used in film and TV production.
Through a series of practical workshops and critical seminars you'll explore both physical and digital art processes.
The course is ideal for people with basic drawing skills who are interested in developing professional skills in concept art.
It's also an excellent opportunity for illustrators who wish to investigate their role in the game production process, and game designers who are looking to focus solely on 2D visualisation skills.
On this course you will:
- use a combination of collage, hand drawing and digital techniques
- be taken through the process of developing characters and environments in response to a written brief
- undertake visual research
- explore thumbnailing, perspective, figure construction, character turnarounds and key scenes.
What will I gain?
At the end of the course you will have a range of work for your portfolio including development sketches and finished images.
Level: Beginner
Entry requirement: You should have basic drawing skills and experience with using computers. Software skills are useful but not essential, as the basics will be covered.
Tutor Profile: Adam Horsepool is a freelance illustrator and animator with several years' experience in the design industry.
He studied animation at Lincoln University, specialising in visual development and character design.
Adam first started as a professional animator producing work for marketing campaigns, e-learning courses and character design for large companies; this is where his interest in illustration began.
He has illustrated a number of children's books for various studios such as Warner Brothers, Igloo Books and Kevin the Carrot for Aldi.
Adam is currently working as a lecturer in the animation department at NTU, teaching storyboarding and visual development.
