This course will teach you how to make well-thought-out, aesthetic collages through different creative exercises, using Adobe Creative Suite to manipulate analog designs and create disorienting juxtapositions.
Working with printed materials, digital stock images, scanners and image editing software you'll have the opportunity to explore your own creativity and will leave with a portfolio of digital images.
There has been a recent rise in the use of digital collage, especially in the publishing industry where collage techniques are being used in advertising campaigns, book jacket designs and satirical illustrations.
Therefore, alongside practical assignments, on this course there'll be time to discuss the relevance of collage today, its routes through history and its creative potential in a digital age.
The course is open to anyone who is relatively comfortable using Photoshop and image manipulation software.
It's also a natural progression for learners who've already taken the Drawing with Scissors: Contemporary Collage course and want to consider alternative approaches.
On this course you will:
- complete set practical tasks
- undertake your own independent collage and design work
- follow tutor demonstrations
- receive one-to-one feedback and group critiques.
Practical assignments will be underpinned by theory and art historical references.
What will I gain?
You'll leave with a greater competency in using digital practices to manipulate images, knowledge of collage-based practices and, finally, a greater awareness of your own individual creativity.
