Multi-award-winning author Duncan Hamilton in conversation with Colin Slater at Bromley House Library
In "The Lives of Others" he will discuss the nuts and bolts of biography from the original idea to publication day and shares his own experiences.
Duncan Hamilton is a two-time winner of the prestigious William Hill Sports Book of the Year award.
He won the first William Hill Sports Book Award with the 2007 memoir Provided You Don't Kiss Me: 20 Years With Brian Clough, an account of his time at the Nottingham Evening Post where he was the paper's Forest reporter during the club's glory years covering both of Forest's historic victorious European Cup campaigns. The book also won the 'Best Football Book' category of the 2008 British Sports Book Awards.
"A superb portrait of the conflicted, contradictory man [that] doesn't duck his uglier aspects." [FHM] the book quickly became a bestseller and won the William Hill Award against very strong competition.
In 2009, Hamilton won a second William Hill Sports Book of the Year award for his biography of the outstanding fast bowler Harold Larwood, who was a protagonist in the controversial 'Bodyline' cricket series between Australia and England in 1932-33. The book also won the 'Best Biography' category of the 2010 British Sports Book Awards and was named The Sunday Times and the Melbourne Age/Sydney Morning Herald Sports Book of the Year.
His latest book is For The Glory: a biography of 'Chariots Of Fire' Olympic champion and missionary Eric Liddell; ‘In this vivid portrait, Hamilton shows us not only the power of a hero, but also the power of faith. He brings to life a man who was exemplary in his perseverance and unbending in his beliefs when facing adversity.’
