With the influx of influencers, bloggers and celebrities dominating our social media feeds the fashion stylist has become one of the most exciting, in demand and powerful roles within the fashion industry today.
If you're a regular reader of fashion titles like Vogue, i-D, Elle, Grazia or a follower of influential fashion bloggers and influencers on social media this course will allow you to explore the paths to take you forward into this exciting industry.
As a fashion stylist you work with a team of industry experts (designers, make-up artists and photographers), and so this course is structured to reflect this dynamic.
The course is a great introduction for anyone who's keen to explore the skills surrounding the role of fashion stylist.
It's great for someone looking to build first-hand experience and portfolio-standard work that'll support an attempt to gain work experience and college/university applications.
On this course you will:
- discuss the influential stylists in the industry and the key work they've produced
- gain an understanding of the work involved in the lead up to a photo shoot
- research and develop ideas into innovative and inspiring images (still or moving)
- build mood boards to communicate your visual message
- learn about the varying paths and roles you can take as a fashion stylist
- experience working as a stylist in a studio setting and external locations
- work in teams towards producing a final image.
You'll be introduced to the many possible career opportunities fashion styling can lead to within the industry, including magazine editorial, online retail, in store, celebrity/television and personal shopping.
The course will include daily lectures and workshops which will set the tone for the day's practical task, whilst working alongside a week long project which will conclude with a final presentation.
Lectures will include industry interviews, short films and presentations.
Alongside this you'll lead research in the classroom and in the library, looking at the history of fashion styling.
What will I gain?
The final outcome of the course will be a mood board showing your research and creative approach, and a high-quality image, all of which can be added to your portfolio.
