Free Heritage Tours of Southwell Minster and Archbishop's Palace

Southwell Minster, Church Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire, NG25 0HD
Free Heritage Tours of Southwell Minster and Archbishop's Palace

About

10th & 11th September 2015

As part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days scheme, the Archbishop’s Palace and Southwell Minster will be offering free guided tours of the Archbishop’s Palace, Education Gardens and the Cathedral.

The tours will be led by experienced Minster Guides from 10am to 4pm on Thursday 10th and Friday 11th September 2015. Chief Steward, Shaun Boney says: “The Minster is a hidden gem in the heart of Nottinghamshire. It has an amazing and intriguing history... you should come and discover it for yourself.”

There is no need to book in advance or make reservations as there will be plenty of scope to take one of the tours, or if you miss the start of a tour you may want to take the opportunity to have some refreshments in the Minster Refectory or wander around the delightful Education Gardens.

The taster tours provide an opportunity to come back with a group of friends/colleagues and have a personalised pre-booked tour: tours specialising in Architecture, History & Artefacts and Stone Carvings (including the Leaves of Southwell) are on offer. Stained Glass of the Minster can also be covered by prior arrangement. Guide books and audio guides are available and the Guides are also able to provide foreign language tours in French by prior arrangement.

In addition to the Guided Tours, there will be the relatively rare opportunity to take a Tower Tour (weather permitting) for a small fee, where the incredible vistas and rolling countryside around Southwell can be viewed.
