Galvanize Ensemble & Fretwork come together for a project of old and new music, from Hildegarde von Bingen and Henry Purcell to improvisations and cut-up explorations.
This performance includes a new Eduardo Paolozzi influenced work, Metalization of a Dream by Duncan MacLeod, inspired by dada- and surrealist-inspired collages, moving performers around the auditorium. There's also the world premiere of Commune, Learning to connect as shown to us by trees, by Carmel Smickersgill, which highlights the similarities between us as humans and our surroundings.
The performance sees both ensembles sharing music, styles and influences, with independent sets from each ensemble and as combined forces with live art curated by Claire Orme. Arrangements and improvisations from both ensembles are featured alongside the new commissions, exploring electro-acoustic voices from viols to electric guitar, with electronics.
