Glove Making with Leather - Short Course at NTU, Nottingham Trent University

About

9th – 11th August | 2023 | Wednesday to Friday 10 am - 4 pm, three days
Nottingham Trent University
£595

Using creative teaching techniques and clear, step-by-step guidance you'll unravel the process of glove making with leather, a skill that's traditionally thought of as difficult to master.

With only eight places offered, this course provides you with one-to-one attention to ensure you leave with the skills and knowledge to continue glove making as part of your profession or purely personal enjoyment.

This course is suitable for those who are interested in craft and accessory design who'd like to extend their skills.

It's also good for those working in fashion wanting to know more about accessories, as well as theatre costume makers.

It's also ideal for teachers and technicians who want to add a unique skill to their repertoire.

No prior glove making experience is required. It's useful to have some stitching and pattern making skills, though this is not essential as the basics will be taught.

On this course you will:
• learn about the different qualities of leather
• select the right leather for your gloves
• explore leather manipulation techniques
• make patterns for gloves
• develop leather cutting and stitching skills
• use special tools for stitching your gloves
• complete your gloves with the right finishes.

What will I gain?
By the end of the course you'll have a completed pair of leather gloves (and maybe more in development) along with technical notes about materials and processes.

Level: Beginner.

Entry requirement: It's useful to have some stitching and pattern making skills, though this is not essential as the basics will be taught.

Where you'll learn:
You will be based in the Bonington building at the City Campus, our dedicated art and design hub. You will have access to an excellent range of facilities and equipment in the leather and accessory design studios, with leather cutting tools, a leather embossing press and leather provided. You'll also have access to the NTU library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can't reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.

Here's what our previous attendees said:
- 'Loved the course, really hands on practical advice with an excellent teacher who has lots of knowledge. Thank you Vajira' JD
