Butterflies, bug houses, paper crowns and pottery make up The Harley Gallery’s creative summer programme for children. Already a well-regarded venue for the East Midlands showcasing contemporary art of many forms, the gallery is committed to inspiring the creativity of the younger generation
All activities are thoughtfully planned and delivered by our teacher trained Education and Engagement Managerith the aim to inspire young minds to be creative, using hand skills to create their own pieces of artwork.
Arrive early and spend time exploring contemporary exhibition Laid, an immersive installation by Laura Ellen Bacon.

Garden Butterflies

Bring your garden to life with your own colourful handmade butterfly. These well thought out activities are perfect for entertaining your child and igniting their creative side.
Paper Crowns
Wednesday 1 August | 11am - Midday | Midday - 1pm
This nature-inspired summer activity is sure to keep the kids entertained and give them royal status designing and making their very own crown to wear.
Natural Weaving
Wednesday 8 August | 11am - Midday | Midday - 1pm
Take inspiration from the contemporary exhibition Laid, an immersive installation on the ground floor of The Harley Gallery before spending an hour with our Education Manager and Engagement learning the craft of weaving.
Using natural materials, you will be led in creating a three-dimensional structure.
Nature Faces
Wednesday 15 August | 11am - Midday | Midday - 1pm
During this one hour workshop you and your child will create your very own funny faces from all things natural, from pine cone smiles to leaf eyes.
Bug Houses
Wednesday 22 August | 11am - Midday | Midday - 1pm
Make a home for insects, bugs and minibeasts!
This week you will be guided through making a home for the creepy crawlies that reside in our gardens. Select from the range of recyclable materials on offer, then set to creating your very own grand design.
Seed Heads
