Heritage Open Day at Thoresby Park

Heritage Open Day – 18th September 2019
10am – 12pm & 3pm – 5pm | Pre-booking is essential due to limited spaces | FREE event.

Thoresby Park will open its doors to the new house on the Thoresby Estate, occupied by the Matheson family who began construction on the home in 1994 and is built as a 1540-style villa of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio. It contains artwork and furniture from the original Thoresby Hall.

Visitors will be welcomed to Thoresby's Pierrepont Gallery within Thoresby Courtyard where the tour will start with registration on arrival, you are free to arrive earlier than advertised to explore the courtyard and park.

The tours will start at 10am and 3pm, both will begin in the gallery, giving a brief history of the estate and courtyard. You will then return to cars for an escorted drive to the new Thoresby House. After a picturesque drive across the estate passing Salvin's Thoresby Hall hotel, everyone will arrive at Thoresby Park for the main tour.

The Matheson Family will greet visitors at Thoresby Park and take you on a tour of their home, giving detailed accounts of the family history, land and its developments through the generations. You will get detailed descriptions of the many artefacts that were moved from Thoresby Hall to Thoresby Park, and some of the unique stories that accompany them.

This will be a personalised tour giving you a warm welcome to Thoresby and it's history, groups are kept smaller to allow a quality experience, so be assured any questions or information will not be lost. The tours will last for around an hour and a half.
