North Nottinghamshire attractions, The Harley Gallery and Creswell Crags, are getting set to fully reopen to visitors again after lockdown, in time for International Museum Day on Tuesday 18 May.
As the next step in the government's coronavirus 'roadmap' approaches, both indoor attractions, near Worksop, have announced what visitors will be able to see when they return. The reopening coincides with International Museum Day; an annual event that has been celebrating the role of museums since 1977.
Activities include:
• A NEW art exhibition, which launches at The Harley Gallery on Tuesday 18th May. A Year With The Jerwood Collection includes works by artists LS Lowry, Henry Moore, Walter Sickert, and Maggi Hambling, among others. It will be the first time the celebrated collection is exhibited in the Midlands.
• NEW displays of miniature portraits within The Portland Collection Museum. These form part of the exhibits that already include works by Michelangelo, Sir Antony van Dyck and George Stubbs.
• A NEW art installation, Drawn to the Water's Edge within Creswell Crags' exhibition gallery, which will be on display for the very first time in May. The cave art at Creswell Crags was likely scratched by a migrant who travelled here from Europe. In collaboration with the area's Polish community, and funded by Arts Council England, composer Amanda Johnson and artist Richard Johnson will create an art and sound installation, flooding the exhibition space with the sight and sound of water.
• Creswell Crags museum, which includes prehistoric artefacts excavated on the site, is due to reopen on Monday 17th May, along with the gift shop, and pre-booked cave tours are due to begin the following weekend.
