JS Bach - St John Passion

About

Saturday 7 March 2020, 7.45pm

Nottingham Cathedral

Tickets from £10

J. S. Bach’s St John Passion explores the intense and immensely human drama of Christ’s last days.  The narrative is led by the Evangelist, with soloists taking the roles of Christ, Pilate and Peter, as well as interspersing the story with arias, which reflect on the action just heard.  The chorus plays the part of the crowd, unleashing venomous energy and rhythmic intensity in sudden outbursts, as well as singing the chorales, which meditate on the story at key points.

Experience the spiritual and artistic grandeur of Bach's great retelling of Christ's passion, in the beautiful setting of Nottingham's Pugin-designed Cathedral.

Sung in German (full translation available on the night), the St John Passion will be performed on Baroque instruments by the Musical and Amicable Society Baroque Orchestra, directed by Alex Patterson.
