OPERA NORTH EVENT UPDATE:
Following the announcement of the national lockdown measures coming into force on 4/11/20 this event is postponed
We are assessing government guidance and working to reschedule where we can. We will contact bookers as soon as we can, but assure all our audiences they will be able to either move their booking to an alternative date or receive a full refund. We ask for patience at this time as our Box Office team, and those of our partner venues, will be extremely busy, but rest assured we will be in contact.
Opera North’s core purpose is to use music and opera to create extraordinary experiences for everyone. We have delivered against this commitment throughout 2020, and despite this latest setback will continue to do, sharing music in any form we can.
Be transported to a crisp, winter evening in Paris with Opera North’s animated re-imagining of Act III of Puccini’s best-loved opera La bohème.
Once madly in love, Rodolfo and Mimìhave fallen on hard times - Mimì’s illness is getting worse and Rodolfo is driven to jealousy and rage. In this famously heart-breaking act, the couple reaches breaking point.
Can their love survive the harsh winter?
Matthew Robins' unique animated retelling of Act III of La bohème captures the emotion and humour of Puccini’s classic opera.
Featuring a newly-recorded soundtrack by the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North and four soloists, the animation works as a standalone piece so you don’t need to have seen the full production to attend.
The animation will be projected onto walls and buildings across the cities and towns of the North. Book a slot, wrap up warm, grab a pair of headphones supplied by Opera North and allow yourself to be immersed in this magical outdoor experience.
Please read the COVID-19 guidelines for this event at the Opera North website
Performances at Victoria Embankment will take place at the bandstand which is adjacent to the war memorial and suspension footbridge on the Embankment. The bandstand is accessible from both London Road and Queen’s Drive, with on street parking available (charge applies during some hours). Please note that Victoria Embankment is now closed to vehicle traffic between Bunbury Street and Wilford Grove. Access to the viewing areas are all hard standing, with terraced standing to view the performance. Wheelchair accessible spaces are available.
Performances at Nottingham Arboretum are at the bandstand, which is located at the western end of the park. Access to the venue will be via the entrance located at the intersection of Waverley Street and Arboretum Street only. There is limited on street parking available, so public transport is recommended. The closest tram stop is High School which is a 2 minute walk away, alternatively it is possible to walk to the city centre in less than 10 minutes. Access to the venue is all hard standing with terraced standing to view the performance. Wheelchair spaces are available.
