Laura Ellen Bacon knots, weaves, twists and plaits natural materials by hand to create monumental site-specific sculptures. Using silver birch gathered from around the vast Welbeck estate in Sherwood Forest and willow from Somerset, Laid will feature a huge, new, ‘human-scale’ sculpture to twine around the ground floor at The Harley Gallery.
They envelop and embrace their surroundings, yet despite their scale, the intricacy of Bacon’s work creates a nest-like intimacy. Her forms are at once strange and familiar, straddling the natural world and the man-made.
