Lara Favaretto - Absolutely Nothing

Favaretto's exhibition, titled 'Absolutely Nothing', is her largest to date in the UK and will bring together pivotal pieces spanning two decades of her practice, along with recent works and a new major public commission titled Thinking Head (2017), comprising clouds of steam slowly rising from the roof of Nottingham Contemporary. On some days these clouds of vapour will be intense; on others, barely visible. The Italian artist’s work addresses sculpture’s mutability and monumentality, often testing its relationship to time, where failure, futility and disappearance become generative processes. As Favaretto has said, “I like to shift from perfection to the fall, to push the work to its tipping point, its limit, to endanger it, to the point of making it yield, jam, collapse.”

Wu Tsang - Devotional Document

'Devotional Document' is Wu Tsang's first solo exhibition in the UK. The exhibition will bring together a video and two film installations including Damelo Todo/Odot Olemad (2010/15) which tells the story of Salvadorian teenager named Teódulo Mejía, who came to LA fleeing his country’s civil war. It was filmed in a Los Angeles bar called the Silver Platter which has been a meeting place for several generations of queer and trans communities, often immigrants and political refugees from Central America for over 50 years. Wu's installations, performances, sculptures and videos move fluidly among documentary, activism and fiction, and evoke performative states of impossibility, whether it be through imagined histories, unrecognized languages, or narratives of dispossession.
